What is the EUSR SHEA Gas Passport?
The Utility Safety Health and Environment Awareness (SHEA) portfolio of schemes has been developed in collaboration with industry experts to provide a uniform approach to health, safety, and environmental awareness training across the utilities sector, in line with Health and Safety Executive guidelines.
Who is the EUSR SHEA Gas Scheme Suitable For?
The EUSR SHEA Gas scheme is suitable for all individuals involved in the operational activities of the gas industry who require access to sites, both permanent and temporary, including operatives, supervisors, and management.
What’s Included in the EUSR SHEA Gas Course?
The EUSR SHEA Gas card scheme comprises of twelve modules, including eight core modules that are common to all utility industries. They form the basis of health, safety, and environmental law and practices. There are also four modules specific to the gas industry that cover working on the network and pressure regulating installation, and in domestic and commercial premises.
All trainees will complete the core modules and, depending on their job role, will complete either or both the upstream and downstream modules. It is designed to provide on-site evidence that an individual has demonstrated an appropriate level of knowledge and awareness. It is a passport scheme and does not indicate any level of technical competence or skilled expertise.
How to Get An EUSR Card
Registration is based on the successful completion of training and an assessment. Following training, the EUSR approved trainer will apply to register the trainee. EUSR cards are issued within 28 days of receipt of the necessary completed paperwork and payment. Operatives are issued with a cover note following training to confirm completion of the training and assessment while they wait for their card to be issued. The registration and card costs are £30 + VAT.
The training is delivered through a network of trainers who have been trained and approved by EUSR. All trainers deliver the same course content and testing.
CSCS Affiliated
The Utility SHEA Gas scheme is affiliated with the CSCS to allow gas industry workers access to construction sites for purposes of utilities work without the need to complete a separate CSCS card.
A good level of written and spoken English is required to successfully complete this EUSR Gas Card course.
Certification and Assessment
This course comprises a trainer-led presentation and assessment. Trainees will be called upon to share their experiences and thoughts throughout to build on the course material.
Once the course has been completed, candidates will receive an EUSR SHEA Gas Passport, which is valid for 5 years from the date of training. After which, the course will require renewal by anyone still working within the industry.
How do I get an EUSR SHEA Gas Card?

You will be called upon to share your experiences and thoughts throughout to build on the course material and to identify cases of good and bad practice. Once the SHEA Gas course has been completed you will receive a EUSR SHEA Gas card.

A good level of written and spoken English is required to successfully complete this course.

The EUSR SHEA Gas card is valid for 5 years from the date of training. After which the course will require renewal by anyone still working within the industry.

The EUSR SHEA Gas passport is available online. This online course is rolled out using Zoom or similar software options to achieve virtual classroom environment. To attend the online version of the course you must have access to a computer, laptop, tablet or phone that uses a microphone and webcam. All paperwork, instructions and log in details for the course are sent provided prior.
